During March 2026, Climate Action delivered participatory farmer-learning activities in Chitwan and Lalitpur that linked climate risks with practical responses: climate-smart production, water efficiency, soil restoration, local seed conservation and hands-on vermicomposting.<\/p>\n
The project responded to the increasing effects of climate change on agricultural production by helping farmers assess realistic adaptation and mitigation options. Sessions combined local experience with technical knowledge, enabling farmers to discuss the suitability of new practices in relation to crop productivity, costs, labour and changing weather conditions.<\/p>\n
Farmers raised concerns about depending exclusively on organic inputs, possible short-term effects on yield and quality, the disappearance of local seed varieties and increasing dependence on costly hybrid seeds. Rather than recommending an abrupt change, the project promoted gradual, evidence-based transition and continued farmer learning.<\/p>\n
A practical transition pathway was presented as an adaptable learning process rather than a fixed prescription: Season 1 – 50% compost \/ 50% chemical fertilizer; Season 2 – 75% compost \/ 25% chemical fertilizer; subsequent seasons progress toward 100% compost where farm performance supports the transition.<\/p>\n
Vermicomposting was presented as a practical climate-resilient solution that can convert organic materials into nutrient-rich soil inputs. The learning sessions covered the role of earthworms, suitable organic inputs, pit preparation, moisture management, feeding, monitoring, natural pesticides and the wider principles of organic farming.<\/p>\n
A practical session involved five selected farmers in setting up a vermicomposting system. Farming kits were provided to support initial implementation, while the school-based pit created a visible point for continued demonstration and learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
