Research & Innovation

At Climate Action Nepal, research and innovation are at the core of how we design, implement and improve our work. Effective climate action must be evidence-based, locally relevant and continuously informed by learning from communities, practitioners and partners. Our projects therefore combine field research, community engagement and practical demonstration to develop solutions to real environmental and social challenges. Understanding local contexts and identifying community needs helps us to assess climate risks. We then design interventions that are suitable for local realities.

We apply research and innovation across its programmes by piloting practical solutions, documenting results and refining approaches based on field experience. For example, our Climate-Smart Agriculture and Vermicomposting project introduced and demonstrated climate-smart farming practices such as vermicomposting, biochar, rainwater harvesting and Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), enabling farmers to evaluate practical adaptation options within their own contexts. Similarly, our Scaling Clean Cooking Around Chitwan National Park initiative demonstrated how clean energy technologies can simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lessen pressure on forests, improve household health, reduce women's unpaid workload and reduce human wildlife conflict. Through our Young Climate Champions programme, learn from scenario-building exercises, interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities, has helped students connect climate science with practical environmental action. Across all our initiatives, we continuously test, adapt and improve approaches to ensure that climate solutions are practical, community-led and scalable.

Further, we document lessons from our projects and share insights from the field, by contributing in public discussions, and communicate evidence through articles, exhibitions, media engagement and partnerships.

Through this approach, Climate Action Nepal continuously generates knowledge, tests innovative solutions and showcases evidence of meaningful action that contributes to more resilient communities and a sustainable future.
